Veteran Evelyn Barrett Lester

Eunice Barrett Lester (1918-2011) graduated from the Bacon Academy class of 1936. She became a Registered Nurse and served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the field hospital at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, Massachusetts with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. She later served at Bowman Field in Louisville, KY with the rank of 1st Lieutenant, later returning to Westover. There, she met Air Force pilot Raymond Nixon Lester in 1945 and after her discharge traveled to Clovis, New Mexico and married Raymond six weeks from the time they met.  She was living in Quincy, Florida (near Tallahassee) when she died at the age of 92, and had four children who survived her.
